In a surprising (at least, to us) turn of events, NBC canceledSuits LAafter only one season, completelycontradicting our early prediction of how the TV show would perform.Six months before the spinoff premiered, we released an articlespeculating thatSuits LAwould do better thanSuits. Despite good intentions, the forecast was way off the mark.

Aside fromSuits LA, NBC also canceledFound,Grosse Pointe Garden Society,The Irrational,Lopez vs Lopez, andNight Courtafter the 2024–2025 network TV season.

Instead of following in its predecessor’s footsteps,Suits LA’s reviewsand ratings were less than stellar. The legal drama’sRotten Tomatoesscore sits at 36 percent, whileits ratings averaged about 2.3 million viewerswith delayed playback (and it wasn’t exactly a hit on streaming, either). Consequently, it unfortunately makes sense why NBC decided to endSuits LAearly.

We Predicted Suits LA Being Shot On Location Would Give It A Leg Up On The Original

The Spinoff Was Filmed In Los Angeles

The main reason we suspected thatSuits LAwould have a leg up overSuitswas that it was filmed on location in Los Angeles. Meanwhile, the cast ofSuitsshot the series in Toronto, despite being based in New York City. So,the spinoff’s filming location suggested that it would feel more authentic than the original show.Boy, were we wrong.

Although it had the advantage of its production being based out of LA,Suits LA’s filming locationcouldn’t save it from disaster. The offshoot seemingly just didn’t appeal to fans of the parent series. It also failed to grab the attention of newer audiences. As a result,Suits LAwas a major disappointment, especially considering how popularSuitswas(and still is).

Suits LA Failed To Capitalize On Its Potential Like We Thought It Would

Suits LA Couldn’t Follow In Its Predecessor’s Footsteps

Followingthe resurgence ofSuitsin 2023 (when Netflix added most of its seasons to its streaming library), a spinoff seemed like a no-brainer. If a new generation of consumers were discovering and loving the USA Network legal drama TV series,it made sense that NBC Universal believed that they would want to see more.Unfortunately, that wasn’t the case.

Suits LAsimply couldn’t capitalize on its predecessor’s recent achievements. Despite being off the air for four years,Suitsbecame the most-streamed TV show of 2023,having been watched for a total of 57.7 billion minutes on Netflix that year (perBBC). So, you can’t blame us too much for thinking thatSuits LAwould follow suit (pun intended).
