Steam Deck users will get a special tag near their reviews.

Steam now shows when a review user has spent most of their time playing the game on the Steam Deck. This will ensure you’re able to make a sound judgement based on the game’s performance on PC, Steam Deck or laptop. Players who have spent most of their time playing the game on Steam Deck and have reviewed the game will see a small Steam Deck icon appear in the top right corner of their review.

Earlier last month, Valve announced a new feature that lets reviews be classified based on where the

“We’ve just shipping a new feature on Steam that shows when a customer review was written by someone who played primarily on Steam Deck. Keep an eye out for the Deck icon to see how those players reviewed the game.”

The Steam Deck is a PC gaming device with the comfort of playing on a console. With its small form factor, the Steam Deck allows users to use it as a portable gaming device. However, with the power-packed specifications, the Steam Deck provides a welcome alternative to gamers looking to get some games in on the go.

The change is very small, but would definitely be a big boon to players who already own a Steam Deck. While the device is a power-packed one, it is still not the same as a PC or a laptop simply because of the logistics. So before buying a game, many Steam Deck owners would like to see how other players (who played it on a Steam Deck) found the game. There might be compatibility issues, performance issues, and more. Sometimes, the game design itself might make it quite a painful experience to play on the Steam Deck.

At the same time, it is also useful for PC players who will be able to differentiate between Steam Deck reviews and others. So if a Steam Deck player complains about performance issues, it will be clear to a PC game reader that it was a Steam Deck player review instead of a PC gamer. It becomes an interesting concept for differentiating based on the type of reviews that will help give.

Steam had also introduced a helpfulness system that targeted reviews that are genuinely helpful. This meant deprioritizing one-word reviews or reviews that comprised emojis and ‘ASCII art’.

Reviews form a critical part of the user buying experience for gamers on the Steam platform. As such the changes to the Steam Review system are a welcome addition to the entire experience. There have been instances when users would review bomb games. These incidents would usually not be a reflection of the game itself but more because of the community’s dissatisfaction with the game developers.
