The statement does not mention the cause of the outage. The last big outage saw Sony take down the PlayStation Network for several weeks, all the way back in 2011. It was a security breach that compromised data including usernames, passwords, and more of more than seventy-seven million accounts.
The server failure led to gamers resorting to posting memes on social media. Other brands joined in with Krispy Kreme even offering free donuts to gamers if they visited their stores. But now that the PlayStation network is back online, users can get back to playing their favorite competitive titles including the likes of Call of Duty, Fortnite, GTA Online, and more.
