Jagex, the studio behind the beloved MMORPG franchise RuneScape, has announcedRuneScape: Dragonwilds. It’s a survival crafting game with light RPG elements in which you build settlements, undertake quests, wield magical runes, and slay dragons.
If that sounds like something you would enjoy, we have good news. RuneScape: Dragonwilds' release date is right around the corner. Like most games of this genre, Dragonwilds will first launch via early access on Steam. This shouldn’t come as much of a surprise, though we can’t say the same about its release date.
When is the RuneScape: Dragonwilds release date?
Updated on August 03, 2025: RuneScape: Dragonwilds is now available on Steam via early access. Jagex shadow-dropped the game on August 04, 2025, after an hour-longdeveloper deep-dive, where it discussed the game’s story, audio design, and gameplay.
The devs also revealed that RuneScape: Dragonwilds early access costs $29.99/24.99£. The title is expected to remain in early access until 2026.

RuneScape: Dragonwilds will launch in the Spring of 2025 via early access. In a recent Q&A introductory video, Dragonwilds’ executive producer, Mod Dutch, revealed that it will launch “very soon.”
Dutch also announced a Dragonwilds developer livestream for July 23, 2025, at 5 p.m. BST/9 a.m. PDT, where more details about the game would be revealed. Expect more story and gameplay details, alongside a potential release date in this upcoming livestream.

What to expect from RuneScape: Dragonwilds?
Unlike past RuneScape titles, RuneScape: Dragonwilds isn’t an MMORPG with a paid subscription model. It’s an open world survival crafting game, similar to titles like V Rising and Valheim, which you can purchase for a one-time fee. As of this writing, Jagex hasn’t announced the Steam pricing for Dragonwilds early access version.
RuneScape: Dragonwilds take place in Ashenfall, a vast, untamed continent in the RuneScape universe. you may explore this high fantasy world brimming with lush green forests and fire-breathing dragons with up to four friends in multiplayer co-op.
Aside from indulging in traditional survival gameplay activities such as woodcutting, cooking, and building, you can fight dragon bosses, craft weapons, and use magical runic abilities to traverse Dragonwilds’ vast open world.
