An insider source of Ain’t It Cool News has some info on the upcomingThe Dark Towerproject, claiming that there are “genuine plans” for a May 13th, 2013 release for the first movie, as well as “a very ambitious Game component being planned.”

As you may know, Ron Howard is turning Stephen King’s western/sci-fi/fantasy epic into three theatrical movies and a TV series to fill the gaps between the movies. The “Game component” is said to “further utilize elements from the books.” I don’t see why they wouldn’t make a game for this, but let’s hope that if it’s true, it will be in proper hands.

There is a huge amount of material in the books — not to mention thelinks to King’s other books— which would be cool to see in games to go alongside the movies and TV series.Red Dead Redemptionalready showed that people are ok with wandering around as a cowboy for an hour, so there’s that too. An open world game set around Roland’s youthful ka-tet in Mejis and the fall of Gilead? That would do just fine, thank you very much.

Regardless of how a game may end up, expect to be bombarded withThe Dark Towerads and a Susannah level without stairs somewhere around 2013.
