Last week, Niantic teased that Gen 4 Pokemon were finally being added toPokemon GO, but stopped short of providing an exact release date. Since then, the company has been active on Twitter, teasing that theGen 4 water-type Pokemon Piplupwould be added to the game soon, and has now teased the imminent arrival of another Gen 4 Pokemon as well.

Posting on Twitter, Niantic has teased that the Gen 4 fire-type starter Pokemon Chimchar will be added toPokemon GOsoon. Unfortunately, the tweet is light on any substantial information beyond the fact that players will have the opportunity to add Chimchar to their Pokedex “soon.”

Check out the tweet about Chimchar inPokemon GOright here:

Some fans may be wondering what exactly Niantic means when it says it’s going to add Chimchar toPokemon GO"soon," and at the time of this writing, that’s not exactly clear. That being said, it’s possible that Gen 4 Pokemon will debut inPokemon GOas soon as this month, especially considering the first third generation Pokemon were added to the game in October of last year.

Niantic added the first Gen 3 Pokemon toPokemon GOas part of last year’s Halloween event, so they were all ghost- and dark-type Pokemon. This time around, it seems Niantic will be adding more than just Gen 4 Pokemon, as its teases have focused on the Gen 4 starter types, none of which are ghost- or dark-type Pokemon.

One theory is that Niantic will add Gen 4 Pokemon toPokemon GOon October 23. October 23 is the day when Mewtwo is removed from legendary raids, and many have theorized thatit will be replaced by Giratina, a ghost-type legendary Pokemon from Gen 4. If that’s the case, it wouldn’t be a reach to assume that other Gen 4 Pokemon will debut inPokemon GOalongside Giratina, though that’s just speculation at this time.

Hopefully Niantic shares some more concrete information about the debut of Gen 4 Pokemon inPokemon GOsoon so fans don’t have to keep guessing about when they’ll have the chance to catch them.

Pokemon GOis out now for iOS and Android mobile devices.
