Limited time, though

Anyone who has been interested in adopting virtual reality on PC but holding out because of the price, it may be the time to finally take the plunge. Aftercutting prices by $200 this spring, Oculus has a new promotion that brings its hardware down another two c-notes.

Today, Oculus announced that it has alimited-time saleon the Rift and Touch controllers for $400. Normally, the Rift is priced at $500 and the Touch controls are $100. Purchasing the pair last December when Touch launched would’ve cost $800. Seven months later and that total is halved, at least for a little bit.

There’s more to it than just the headset and the motion controllers. Also included are the usual Rift pack-ins which are: An Xbox One controller,Lucky’s Tale,Medium,Toybox,Quill,Dead and Buried,Dragon Front, andRobo Recall.

It’s reasonable to view the Touch controllers as essential hardware for the Rift at this point. At Digital Dragons earlier this year, Oculus told us that the attach rate on Touch with new Rift purchases is nearly 1:1 right now. That likely has a lot to do with the aforesaid price cut which brought the entire package down to $600 which was the original cost of the standalone Rift.

Wuyang OW2 ultimate

This is a good spot for Oculus to be in, even if it is a temporary one. Right now, it’s the same price as PlayStation VR (with the bonus of coming with motion controls) and half the price of the Vive. It won’t last forever, but it’s good while it lasts.
