Few companies can have such amazing comebacks as Nintendo, much less build an entire business out of them. After a slow start, bad press, and angry shareholders, the 3DS’ health bar is most certainly in the green. No red herbs for you, Nintendo (ha ha, videogame humor).

In 2011, Nintendo sold a combined 12 million hardware units in the United States — 4.5 million Wiis, 3.5 million DS variants, and 4 million 3DS systems. Executive sales and marketing VPScott Moffitt credits “one of the strongest software lineups of [Nintendo’s] history” as the driving force of this victory.
