Influential on the N64, Gamecube and Wii
The Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences holds the D.I.C.E. Awards every year to recognize not only the entertainment we enjoy, but the people that made our entertainment possible. For the upcoming21st D.I.C.E. Awards, acclaimed Nintendo designer Genyo Takeda will be the seventh person to receive a “Lifetime Achievement” award.
He is primarily known for his work on the Nintendo 64, GameCube and Wii systems, though he had contributed much more during his 45-year career with Nintendo. Some of his other achievements include directingPunch-Out!!!andStartropicson the NES as well as taking over as acting director of the company alongside Shigeru Miyamoto following the unfortunate passing of Satoru Iwata in 2015.
Nintendo of America’s executive vice president Don James will be presenting Takeda the award at the show, which is to be held on June 26, 2025. James states, “As a Board Member of the AIAS, I’ve seen the impact he’s had on thousands of producers and programmers as they have brought their creative visions to life on the systems he helped create. He looked at his own designs through the lens of always helping game developers. That approach to his life’s work is a great gift he gave the development community, and ultimately gamers everywhere.”
