Earlier this month, news broke out that Capcom is letting itsResident EvilAmbassadors in Japan and the US totest out a new game that is currently in development. While Capcom didn’t specify what the game in question is, it appears that it is aResident Eviltitle after all.
Several hours ago, Capcom announced that it hasplans to show off a newResident Evilgameat the Tokyo Game Show this September. The project is currently under the title Project Resistance, and details about the upcoming game are pretty much non-existent at this point. However, leaked images recently surfaced online, suggesting that the upcoming entry in theResident Evilfranchise will have co-op and multiplayer at its core.

The images leaked came from Twitter user Nibellion, which showed four civilians engaged in some sort of combat that has a strange resemblance to Valve’sLeft 4 Dead. The characters shown don’t seem to look like any of the familiar faces from pastResident Evilgames, so it appears that we are getting new characters for Project Resistance.
So does this mean that we are finally getting a newResident Evil Outbreakgame? While the only way to know is to wait for the official announcement, a new Outbreak game is not that far off. To the uninitiatedResident Evil Outbreakis a spin-off game released in 2003, that focused on the story of citizens of Raccoon City, and their struggle to survive the zombie-infested town. The game focuses heavily on multiplayer mechanics, allowing players to band together online and find a way out of the doomed city.
If Project Resistance is indeed a new Outbreak game, then the biggest question now is where will it take place inResident Evil’stimeline? Based on the images alone, it’s hard to tell if the game is set in Raccoon City. Luckily, all will be revealed soon when Capcom releases the first trailer for Project Resistance on September 9th.
