It’s important to note that this is not the first time a similar chat exploit has been found and abused. A few months ago, “The Dog” ran rampant in LoL games, causing crashes everywhere.
This time’s exploit works similarly. Your game will crash if one of the people in your game or friendlist sends you the malicious message.

It did not take long before abusers went into play. There are already reports of accounts climbing to Masters+ ranks by sending the message to the in-game chat.
Since the exploit is most probably crashing games due to the large amount of Unicode characters, it is currently unknown which servers and machine locales can be affected.

The only way to avoid being affected by the new League of Legends chat crash is to mute chat. As it was before, we highly suggest you do so. However, this would not prevent people from your friend list DM-ing you with the malicious message. Riot Games has not yet released a statement regarding the exploit.
