A Los Angeles man who was accused of domestic violence and killing his former girlfriend’s pet has been arrested after a two-week long search, the Los Angeles Police Department said.

The LAPD announced in apress releasethat its officers arrested David Sumlin, 32, on Monday at around 12:10 a.m. after issuing a manhunt for him on Jan. 2 following an alleged heated exchange with his ex-girlfriend.

Police said that Sumlin had an argument with the woman around 11:50 a.m. on the day after New Year’s Day. Things between the two eventually escalated to violence when allegedly he threatened her and her puppy.

The LAPD did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment on the incident.

Federal prosecutors toldKTLAthat Sumlin had previously been convicted of at least four felonies, which included attempted robbery, assault with a firearm and transportation of a controlled substance for sale.
