So, it’s finally come to this.Helldivers 2players have been given a new order: Destroy Meridia. And I don’t mean wiping out its rapidly reproducing Terminid presence.Helldivers 2must use Dark Matter to completely destroy the planet, turning it into space dust.
With the completion of the first phase of Operation “Enduring Peace,” Helldivers now must pump the volatile goo into Meridia’s surface. Once the divers reach “critical mass,” the planet will implode into a black hole, taking the super-horny Terminids in its wake. I guess nuking things from orbit just isn’t cool enough for today’s modern kids.

Helldivers 2players set off to kick an entire planet’s ass
This is easily the most significant event in the short history ofHelldivers 2. Not even the temporaryremoval of the Automaton faction, nor the sweetliberation of Malevelon Creek, can compare to Samus Aran-ing a planet completely off the galaxy map. If divers are successful, Meridia will no longer be a playable area. And there will be no take-backsies.
“The destruction of an entire planet is an irreversible action — one that all Super Earth citizens know is a terrible tragedy,” reads the mission brief. “But the tyrannical actions of the Terminids have left us no alternative.”

MAJOR ORDER: OPERATION “ENDURING PEACE"The time has come. We must eradicate the Meridia Supercolony via experimental deployment of weaponized Dark Fluid. The destruction of an entire planet is a tragedy – but the tyrannical Terminids leave us no choice. Good luck, Helldivers.pic.twitter.com/155a9bCnfV
It may be a bit undemocratic of me, but it should be noted that Meridia’s fate may have been avoidable if Super Earth didn’t, you know, actually create this mess. Termicide, a chemical the finest minds of SE assured was safe, is what caused Meridia to become aTerminid breeding ground. It’s up to Helldivers to fix the problem again, but this time for good. Maybe.

The operation relies on players to complete a new mission type: ‘Deploy Dark Fluid’. From what I’ve gathered, you must call down a ‘Dark Fluid Vessel’ which pumps the stuff into the planet’s crust. All the while, you’re attacked on all sides by angry Terminid. It mightnot be going so well. But at least the Dark Matter packs you can equip function as abetter Jump Pack.
What’s most interesting is that Dark Matter isn’t simply going to turn Meridia into a bad memory; the planet will “collapse into a black hole.” Recent theories have mentioned that thesecond coming of the Illuminatesis tied into this. Will the high-tech Illuminate faction use the black hole as a gateway to return to our galaxy? All I do know is that things have been going swimmingly so far — ignoring all the Terminid and dead scientists.
