George Clooneyis returning to his agrarian roots.
“Growing up in Kentucky, all I wanted to do was get away from a farm, get away from that life,” Clooney shared in a recent interview withThe New York Times.
Decades later, the actor’s primary residence with his wife Amal and their children — twins Ella and Alexander, 7 — is a country house in France. Ironically, he reveals, “Now I find myself back in that life. I drive a tractor and all those things,” adding “It’s the best chance at a normal life.”
In addition to his family home in France,Clooney also has an estate in England, a villa on Lake Como in Italy, and another property close to his family in Kentucky.

Clooney, who will make his Broadway debut in"Good Night, and Good Luck"in March, is one of many actors who have opted for a rural day-to-day life.

In November 2024, Amanda Seyfried toldForbesshe left the busy landscapes of Los Angeles and New York City for a farm in upstate New York. She made the move for privacy, tranquility and a better connection to nature, she said, and “it offers a more balanced life than the city does.”
Many stars have also gone farther afield, opting to make their home in Europe and beyond.
Ellen DeGeneres recently purchased a country estate in the U.K., where she’s enjoying a lowkey life with wife Portia de Rossi. AndRichard Gere revealed last year that he was selling his Connecticut home and relocating to Spainwith his wife and their children in order to be closer to his in-laws.
Suitsstar Gabriel Macht may have taken his dedication to life out of the limelight to the extreme. Before returning for the show’s L.A. spinoff, he revealed that he andhis family were living outside the U.S.but was keeping the location (even the continent) a secret.
