While there weren’t a lot of surprises coming out of E3 2018, one that did catch many gamers’ eyes wasFallout 76. Designed as a multiplayer title set within West Virginia,Fallout 76will see players taking on various roles as they work to rebuild (or destroy) after the nuclear destruction.
AfterFallout 76’s official reveal at E3 2018, Bethesda had a lot to say about the game but the studio had yet to release all of the gameplay footage featured as part of its pre-E3 showcase. Now, thatFallout 76gameplay demo has made its way online.
Featuring the same narration from Bethesda Game Studios’ Todd Howard, theFallout 76gameplay demo is short and to the point. It shows offVault 76, one of the first vaults to openfollowing the devastating circumstances around the world, and gives a brief taste of West Virginia, the game’s new setting. Most importantly, the gameplay footage shows off the update graphics engine for the game, which appears to be a vast improvement over what was seen inFallout 4.
As Howard explains,Fallout 76offers the biggest map that the series has ever seen and is reportedly4 times as big as the map inFallout 4. That should give players plenty of opportunities to explore, battle each other, and eventually establish settlements throughout West Virginia.
Speaking of West Virginia, Bethesda will be building off of the lore of the state to create some unique monsters for players to fight. Past Fallout games have done well to assimilate real life locales and concepts into the post apocalyptic world andFallout 76seems to be no different.
What this gameplay demo doesn’t cover isFallout 76’s multiplayer elements, which are sure to be a big selling point for the game. Unlike pastFalloutgames from Bethesda, where NPCs doled out quests and added story, every character inFallout 76will be another player. As a result, players can team up with each other to tackle different objectives or they canfight each other for control of certain regions. But don’t worry, Bethesda is well aware of the griefing potential inFallout 76and is working on systems to discourage unnecessarily troll-y behavior.
