To nobody’s surprise, the first Hall of Legends inductee is Faker.
The first inductee of the LoL Esports Hall of Legends is none other than Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok. His legacy will be honored by a film, and the trailer is out now.

The League of Legends Esports Hall of Legends wasfirst introducedlast January 2024 - “where greatness will be immortalized.” Now, over four months later, we have the first Legend: Faker.

The trailer to Faker’s Hall of Legends induction film went live. The full-length film will go live on the official League of Legends YouTube channel at 8 am PST on June 14th, 2024.
“The Unkillable Demon King” will be honored with an in-game event. This will involve custom cosmetic items, both earnable and purchasable, which all relate back to Faker.

While only being less than two minutes long, the trailer offered a good glimpse into what we can expect in the full film. It had statements from people in the LoL Esports industry: ex-pro player, ex-caster, and LoL streamer Marc “Caedrel” Lamont, Faker’s ex-teammate and current pro player Jeong “Impact” Eon-young, host Eefje ‘sjokz’ Depoortere, and caster SEONG K all had banger one-liners in the trailer. Other personalities shown include Heo “ShowMaker” Su and Rasmus “Caps” Winther, both legendary players in their own right.

“Faker is truly the most iconic and influential figure in League of Legends and esports history,” said John Needham, President of Esports at Riot Games. “His name is synonymous with excellence in LoL Esports, and he has rightfully earned his place as our very first Hall of Legends inductee.”
But apart from all of those personalities, the trailer promises to talk about the man behind the moniker. Faker’s father, Lee Jung-kyeon, was also shown to be involved in the film. Referring to Faker’s 2017 loss and emotional outburst, he said “I cried then too. How can a parent not cry when your child is crying?”

Prior to this induction announcement, Faker’s most recent foray into professional play was MSI 2024. They finished in 3rd place after losing to Bilibili Gaming twice in the bracket stage. While Faker and T1 did not raise the trophy, they have had record-breaking matches, both locally and internationally.
Gen.G Esports is officially T1’s father.
The LCK Spring 2024 Grand Final between T1 and Gen.G also did not go Faker’s way. Gen.G lifted their fourth LCK trophy in a row, resulting in the first 4peat in LCK history. In MSI 2024, T1 demolished FlyQuest in what was the shortest international best-of-three match in LoL Esports history.
