The Flash ’s third time of year had a few problem — whether it was a way - too - slow - burn on revealing its big badness , or the eventual reveal that its big badness was actually essentially the same crowing badness it had done for two season already . But one of its biggest problems was thatits main graphic symbol was kind of a terrible jerk … and the guy playing him agrees .
Speaking toCinemablendat San Diego Comic - Con late , Grant Gustin discussed how the fourth season of the show will see Barry become a changed man in the twinkle of his time in the speedforce at the end of season three . This is a skillful affair , because all he did in time of year three was block everything he ’d acquire up until that distributor point and make selfish , misguided conclusion ( like , say , mess up all of time ) that actively harm everyone around him :
That was always the goal for our show was we were going to be the lighter , funnier show . And you know , sometimes storylines just take you where they take you . I think just because of all the time traveling that Barry Allen did , and all the repercussions it had , it take us down the “ Flashpoint ” route , if you will . We really did n’t do “ Flashpoint ” for long , but we manage with the repercussion for an entire season . Barry was n’t only the heavy badness at the end of the yr , but he was kind of the villain of the time of year because it was his fracture that everything go on . So we ’re die to get back to our roots a little bit , and because of this experience in the Speed Force , Barry ’s capable to get go of things and move on , and he ’s able to help the team move on , and the show can get back to its original root where Barry enjoys having these powers and has play , and the whole squad has a little piece more playfulness .
I mean , okay , Barry was also literally the scoundrel of time of year three — because Savitar wasrevealed as a future embodiment of our beloved speeding goofball of a herowho was evil and decided to fuck with his preceding self ’s liveliness for shits and giggles . But it ’s nice to at least see Gustin and the Flash team at large acknowledging that the show is at its good when Barry can arise and learn from his error , and relish being the hero he was uprise into throughout the first three season .
So far we ’re hearing a mass of positive thing about The Flash ’s 4th time of year ; hopefully , the show lives up to those statement of reassurance and gives us a happier , less jerked meat - ish hero to watch .
