Dell ’s WP7 phone may have gotten a name downgrade — Dell Venue Pro just does n’t have quite the cachetof Lightning — but after some hands on time , the slider at least looks and feel every bit as promising as we ’d go for .

The Venue Pro has a bit more heft than some of the other WP7 devices launching today , but it ’s not excessively bulky . It just experience satisfying , long-wearing . Likewise the portraiture slider keyboard : good spacing on keys , a skid chemical mechanism that seemed capable of enduring an extended SMS shelling . The 4.1 - column inch multitouch AMOLED screen is bright , crisp , and responsive . I ca n’t wait to see how pics from the 5MP camera look on it . One quibble : the speech sound ’s already so long that the added hight from sliding out the keyboard vertically makes it look and find a slight gawky and off - balance . But it otherwise seems , so far , like a warhorse .

In a circumstances of ways , you could see the Venue Pro as a correctiveto the Aero , which feels as crummy as it be . As for carrying into action , we did n’t get a prospect to play around with WP7 too much , but the Snapdragon processor seemed up to the few tasks we gave it .

It ’s a promising scratch line for Microsoft , and a moderately light index number that their strict road map for computer hardware married person is pay off . It ’s also a new commencement for Dell , who between the Venue Pro and therumored ThunderAndroid phone are hold up to speedily make Aero a remote memory .
