How many dungeons have you completed?

There’s plenty to love about Destiny 2 and its array of activities players can experience, but nothing beats the endgame PvE experience of raids and dungeons.

Destiny 2

Raids have existed since the Destiny 1 days, but Destiny 2’s Forsaken expansion introduced a shorter, three-player version of raids that Bungie has called dungeons. These activities are far from your standard Nightfall, with deep lore connection, challenging encounters that make you think, and bountiful rewards players can earn.

All Destiny 2 dungeons

The Shattered Throne

The first dungeon arrived during week three of the Forsaken expansion way back in 2018. The Dreaming City was becoming more and more corrupted each week until the launch of The Shattered Throne, which saw guardians head into the Taken-ravaged throne world of Mara Sov.

Every three weeks, players could access the dungeon and take on Dûl Incaru, the Eternal Return. A hidden challenge at the time saw players begin the quest to unlock Wish-Ender, an Exotic primary bow.

Pit of Heresy

The difficulty was ratcheted up a notch with Shadowkeep’s Pit of Heresy, which arrived in October 2019. Guardians descended into the base of The Scarlet Keep, below the Darkness Pyramid, and fight Hive overlord Zulmak.

Completing Pit of Heresy at the time required a little fireteam coordination and survivability, especially during the Chamber of Suffering, which saw guardians fight endless waves of spawning Hive. Below that was the Harrow, a jump-puzzle with dozens of deadly traps.

But notably, many remember the Tunnels of Despair where the fireteam had to navigate tight crawlspaces and passages all while avoiding an invulnerable Ogre.

Prophecy

Prophecy changed the game and the expectations of the Destiny 2 player base when it came to dungeons. Guardians entered a paracausal realm where they fought to uncover the secrets of the mysterious Nine and destroy the Taken Kell Echo.

From deserts of twilight sand to a cuboid hexahedron puzzle and a final boss room with three platforms that gravity-switched each round, Prophecy is a feast for the eyes. Above all, the race to the Singularity saw guardians take out their sparrows and power down gigantic ribbons running through tetrahedrons.

While there’s no cool Exotic weapon to earn, it’s an experience every Destiny 2 player should have — and many are keen for its reprisal with Episode: Heresy’sRite of the Nine activity.

Grasp of Avarice

Part of the Bungie 30th Anniversary Pack, Grasp of Avarice opened up a piece of Destiny history in the Cosmodrome “Loot Cave.” Back in Destiny 1, the Loot Cave was simply a small room with endlessly-spawning enemies that players farmed for gear.

But in Destiny 2, the Loot Cave became a lot more, and a passageway below opened into a tale of adventurous greed and piracy in the Destiny universe. Players followed in the footsteps of Wilhelm-7 and his fireteam as they dove too deep for treasure. Guarding the chest at the end: Captain Avarokk with his loyal shank R-M80.

Duality

The Derelict Leviathan returned in 2022 and with it the Duality dungeon. Eris Morn hooked up a Psionic mindreading device on an old Emperor Calus clone robot, essentially delving into his mindscape and discovering his nightmares.

Duality’s weapon set remains one of the most coveted, while the dungeon also saw the return of a unique Exotic weapon that dropped randomly from the final boss. You could increase the drop chance of the Exotic by completing challenges and achievements associated with Duality.

Spire of the Watcher

The Warmind Rasputin may have met his end, but remnants of the advanced AI couldn’t be stamped out, with the Ares Spire on Mars one such location that was threatening to blow.

Spire of the Watcher saw guardians enter the Ares Spire to stop the Vex from stealing Rasputin’s submind data and blowing a huge crater in the Mars surface. It was a return to the planet for the first (technically, second) time since the destination was sunset into the Destiny Content Vault.

The dungeon Exotic Hierarchy of Needs isn’t a memorable weapon, but the experience of running the activity and defeating Persys remains a top experience for Destiny 2 guardians.

Ghosts of the Deep

Ghosts of the Deep saw the Hive take center stage again. This time, a Hive ritual deep beneath Titan’s Arcology threatened to resurrect the Taken King, Oryx, and it was up to the guardians to dive underwater and thwart Lucent Hive Wizard Šimmumah ur-Nokru.

The dungeon matched Prophecy for visuals, but it was widely panned by guardians for its brutal difficulty — but not on an encounter basis. The mechanics were easy to understand, but many believe Bungie punched up the health of each boss, making clears of Ghosts of the Deep incredibly long and tiresome.

Warlord’s Ruin

Bungie learned from their erroneous ways and in 2023 launched an “easier” dungeon in Warlord’s Ruin. The dungeon saw guardians step back in time, braving a Dark Age castle called Windswept Crag to take on enemy Scorn and Taken.

Guardians survived the elements only to be locked in a prison cell, which they had to break out of and then climb the inside and outside of the castle. At the spire, the bones of the Ahamkara Hefnd and a giant Chimera Servitor awaited them.

Bungie nailed the theme of the Dark Age in Warlord’s Ruin, and with an iconic Exotic in Buried Bloodline to get, players look back fondly on Warlord’s Ruin and even run it to this day.

Vesper’s Host

Vesper’s Host saw guardians return to space. But this time, it was in Europa to explore Vesper Station and uncover the secrets of an unknown entity breaking in.

Those who ran the Deep Stone Crypt raid will be familiar with how parts ofVesper’s Hostplayed out, but the grand stage was put up a notch with sections of platforming in zero-gravity interspersed among the challenging encounters.

Destiny 1’s classic Exotic Icebreaker was up for grabs, as well as a super-cool class armor item with glowing LED lights that looked like a panel of a space station.

Sundered Doctrine

Destiny 2’s most recent dungeon is Sundered Doctrine. Guardians delve into Rhulk’s Pyramid after his defeat in Vow of the Disciple to discover its contents shifted. This is the first dungeon to feature the Dread as a standard combatant.

Vow’s symbols make a return as well as a unique miniboss, Zoetic Lockset, which includes four huge Shriekers and an unlock requirement. Kerrev, the Erased awaits players in Rhulk’s Vault.

More secrets inSundered Doctrineare being uncovered by the week, with multiple runs revealing secret codes players can enter into a lock at the beginning of the dungeon to progress the Exotic Catalyst quest for Finality’s Auger.
