For many decades, ABC has aired different TV shows with some being successful while others were less appreciated. But a recent trend ofrebooting TV seriesmeans that audiences everywhere will finally get the chance to watch these old classics in a new way. One of these confirmed series from ABC isThe Wonder Yearsover 30 years after the original debut.

The Wonder Yearsaired from 1988 to 1993 as a comedy-drama following the journey of a boy named Kevin Arnolds growing up in a suburban middle-class family. Over 6 seasons, it became one of the most iconic shows in the 1980s and propelled Fred Savage, Kevin’s actor, to Hollywood fame. However, the version set to air between 2021 and 2022 is going to feature a black middle-class family in Montgomery, Alabama during the 60s.

ABC is noted to be heavily invested in the reboot withEmpire’sco-creator Lee Daniels as executive producer and Saladin K. Patterson ofThe Big Bang Theoryfameworking on several episodes. Additionally, more writers will continue to be brought in as the series moves past its pilot and continues production. Finally, the original co-creater Neal Marlens is involved as a consultant on the reboot and Fred Savage himself will direct and produce the pilot.

It’s clear this newThe Wonder Yearshas some massive shoes to fill against the original which won a Primetime Emmy during its first season. But with some big names and people who worked on the first series, fans know the reboot is in good hands even as other productions are beingfurther delayed due to COVID-19.
