Warning: Spoilers ahead forDoctor Whoseason 15, episode 7, “Wish World.“Russell T. Davies' return as theDoctor Whoshowrunner has resulted in the show focusing on supernatural themes rather than the show’s traditionally sci-fi values, butDavies has recently been quietly implying he’s ready to move onto another compelling mystery. Davies' comeback as the boss ofDoctor Who’s Disney eramade it seem as though the show was about to revert to a more recognizable formula after Chris Chibnall’s divisive era of canon-breaking storylines and an overcrowded TARDIS. Davies restored some elements of the formula, but has also taken the show forward.

The return of Susan and the Rani in “The Interstellar Song Contest,” and the pendingcomeback of Omega as revealed at the end of “Wish World,“promise a massive finale on May 31 that’s essentially a huge tribute toDoctor Who’s classic era. That said,I would be surprised if “The Reality War” didn’t end Davies' current storylinethat has revolved so heavily aroundDoctor Who’s Pantheon. Instead of continuing to focus on the show’s group of villainous deities, I think what’s more likely is that Davies will adjust course to build on a very subtle new storyline.

A Company Called “Gestetta” Has Been Appearing Throughout Doctor Who Season 15

The name has already shown up in “The Well” & “Wish World”

The word"Gestetta” may not mean very much to large portions of theDoctor Whofan base, but especially eagle-eyed viewers may have spotted its ever-growing presence in season 15. Perhaps its most compelling appearance so far has been on a panel aboard the mining base in episode 3, “The Well”. So, it would seem that Gestetta designed and presumably built the facility that serves as the primary setting of thesequel to 2008’s “Midnight,“which showedDavid Tennant’s Tenth Doctorand his first encounter with the terrifying and still-nameless entity.

There are still only theories about what connects the mining facility in “The Well” and the building in “Wish World,” but I’m certain there is a connection between them both.

Inventing a company name for the sake of such a brief shot would have been cool, but unusual. Thankfully, it seems"The Well” was just one breadcrumb on the trail of finding out who Gestetta is. Near the end of “Wish World,” the name can be seen emblazoned on the side of a skyscraper as London starts to fall through into the Underverse on the cusp of Omega’s escape. There are still only theories about what connects the mining facility in “The Well” and the building in “Wish World,” but I’m certain there is a connection between them both.

The Gestetta Company Could Be Doctor Who Season 16’s New Big Plot Thread

RTD reportedly has solid plans for Doctor Who’s future

Doctor Whooften starts to introduce its next big storyline when there’s still another one in motion, or even before the audience is aware of what is coming.Doctor Who’s modern erahas been especially good at this, with Russell T. Davies serving as a great example of a writer who can pull it off. The Bad Wolf storyline that haunted Davies' first spell in charge of the show was an incredibly gradual reveal that, at first, almost felt like it was barely a storyline at all. In this way, the Gestetta teases appear to be setting up something similar.

Of course,it’s impossible to tell at the moment where the implied Gestetta arc is headed, just as it was for Bad Wolf. What’s perhaps most interesting about the Gestetta teases is that the organization’s name has appeared on present-day Earth as well as on a mining colony on a planet that’s a huge distance from Earth and also in the distant future. I’m sure Davies has an explanation in mind when it comes to connecting these two instances, as well as plans to make the name Gesetta pop up again before the big reveal.

Sadly,Doctor Who’s immediate future is still unclear. Although a spinoff miniseries calledThe War Between the Land and Seais still expected later in 2025,Doctor Whoseason 16 remains unconfirmed. Another batch of episodes obviously needs to be announced before the continuation of the Gestetta mystery can be seriously addressed, but some reports state the show will take a break after season 15, whether for a long or short time.Doctor Who TVreports that at least two more seasons have been planned out, but if they happen, it’s looking likeDoctor Whowill continue without Disney’s involvement.
